Herbie’s first recollection of Bhangra was when he started to hear and feel the music of the great bands of London – Alaap and Heera. At the age of 10, alongside his brothers Kully and Gurps, they joined their local Bhangra dance group called ‘Nachda Punjab’ where Herbie served his apprenticeship playing keyboards and also singing for local bands. At the age of 11, Herbie performed solo for the first time ever on stage in Bradford, UK.
In 1993, Herbie and Kully formed the band ‘Sahara’ and released their debut album ‘Intemptation’ which exceeded their expectations and shot them to national fame. This album was closely followed by ‘Let Loose’ in 1994 which was produced by Johnny Zee and then ‘Blue Print’ in 1997. It wasn’t until 2001 when Sahara released ‘Access All Areas’ that their global stature grew and overnight they became a name internationally. The album sales were phenomenal and the song ‘Soniye Ni Soniye’ became the best-selling song of the year. As the songs became more and more popular, Sahara set-off on tours to Canada, Norway, Denmark, India and Pakistan, Kenya, the USA and to Dubai where they performed at the legendary ‘Dubai Rain’ festival. Sahara have since become a very in demand live act around the world with their songs very prominent at weddings parties and club gigs everywhere!
In 2005, the Sahara brand hit new heights when the album ‘Undisputed’ featured their track ‘Billo Ni (Tera Lal Ghagra)’ and made the song an anthem almost overnight. The song was not only a huge radio hit but it was also appreciated around the world the song and more so in countries like India, Kenya, Pakistan and the UAE. To this day

The boys have been on extensive tours for the past few years covering Pakistan, India, Norway, Malaysia, Singapore, Holland, Belgium and most recently Australia taking their music philosophy to unite one and all and make people enjoy the moment to all corners of the globe. Their frequent trips and events in Pakistan are testament to the fact that music brings people together – no matter what your background is. Sahara are proud to be UK born artists representing Bhangra genre across the world and humbled to be one of a few UK Punjabi acts to have a track in a Pakistani feature film. ‘Parchi’ features ‘Billo Hai’ as the lead track on the new Azar Jafri/ARY Films action-comedy that has broken many box-office records in Pakistan and in most territories where it has been released. ‘Billo Hai’ has also been nominated as ‘Wedding Song of the Year’ and remains one of the most in-demand songs at events in Pakistan in the past 12 months!
In November 2016, the boys performed ‘Billo Hai’ and ‘Lal Ghagra’ for designers Asifa & Nabeel at QHBCW Bridal Couture Week finale on the catwalk in Lahore in front of the fashion glitterati – something very unique and different for them in their music career!
